We often become saints through the mess. Messes become the means to a better end, not the things you wish would go away. This does not necessarily mean that we go searching for getting ourselves into messes, but rather that we humbly accept and work prayerfully through the messes in our life. Like a sculpture, chiseling away the rough parts of our lives is not a neat ordeal, but is a necessary one. God is always careful with your soul, but, like a good father, He aims not for ease, but for growth.
You might find comfort in reading a chapter of the Bible like Sirach 2, reminding us that serving the Lord might mean allowing ourselves to deal with messy situations, and be tempted to give them up. But we must pray for the strength to trust God’s ways more than our own judgement about how long a trial should last.
"Accept whatever is brought upon you, and in changes that humble you be patient. For gold is tested in the fire, and acceptable men in the furnace of humiliation. Trust in him, and he will help you; make your ways straight, and hope in him." – Sirach 2:4–6
